Skeppy vs. the Dream SMP fanbase

Minecraft YouTuber Skeppy was seemingly falsely accused of paedophilia on Twitter in April 2022, following outrage over controversial jokes referencing incest, paedophilia and domestic violence

Skeppy, a popular Minecraft gaming video creator with over 6 million subscribers, was accused of predatory behaviour in a Twitter thread published by a burner account on April 9, 2022, as he was simultaneously being cancelled by his fanbase, and thus the larger MCYT and Dream SMP fanbase online, for questionable or "edgy" jokes made recently, based on a variety of controversial topics, including relationship abuse. Tonight's podcast investigates whether any complaints made about Skeppy's situation were valid - given that many people still consider his actions "unforgivable" - and also relays the allegations made against Skeppy, whether they are plausible, and the personal reasons why Skeppy didn't do anything wrong in this situation and, as a result, shouldn't have been pursued/cancelled so aggressively online by his younger, mostly left-leaning community.

“[trigger warning indicator]: abuse, incest, ‘Skeppy negative.’ Guys, just a little reminder that not only for your fave to be your fave, you have to stand up for him [sic]; Skeppy made a joke about abuse and a weird thing about a minor girl. Stop defending him, because even if he did get hacked, he never said anything on his main [account apologising for it].” I don't know why they have to point out the “minor girl” in contrast to a minor boy, because, you know, apparently, if something happens to a girl, it's worse than a boy - you know, feminism equality in 2022. But, here we go.

@skeppysecret on Twitter: “In today's video, I will be beating a girl… in Minecraft Bedwars,” posted on April 7, 2022. On March 31, 2022, Skeppy tweeted: “I will be getting my cousin’s sister…” Look, I'm not even reading this one. On June 15, 2020, he tweeted: “Call my girl PlayStation®, because she’s almost 5.” [laughter]

I mean, you know, those aren't the most questionable rap lyrics I've ever seen - but, you do you and get angry, I guess. And I wasn't following you in the first place, so, you know, I guess I'm fine. Skeppy is a relatively famous Minecraft YouTuber with several million subscribers who I've only seen, like, six videos from, with him being with some supposedly toxic Minecraft server owner. In hindsight, I don't actually know if they were, like, staged or not - because, you know, the first few videos seemed real, whilst the rest seemed very artificial. But, yeah, you know, he's a famous Minecraft YouTuber who's part of the Dream SMP, alongside some actually “used to be half-decent” channels, and a bunch of people who think loud = funny.

[TommyInnit screams loudly, television static plays]

And, you know, speaking of the Dream SMP, I literally don't know how people have interest in it. It's basically some artificial Minecraft story that's live every night on Twitch, or something - I don't get it. But, then again, I'm in the mindset of some random, edgy 15-year-old boy, instead of some random, very sensitive 14-year-old girl. And yeah, you know, due to the demographic of the Dream SMP’s fanbase, which is usually some young, leftist thirteen-year-old, who spams emojis on, like, the posts of every single Netflix actor they see, because, you know - they’re definitely gonna date them - as well as the fact that, you know, Minecraft usually targets a younger demographic regardless, obviously, said sensitive people are, you know… not going to take kindly to jokes about…. pretty much anything. Look, you know, I've had loads of experience with, like, the BTS fandom, and, you know, if you criticise their idol(s) - literally even once - vengeance is coming against you from literally every single member of their fanbase, because, you know… how dare you have a different opinion? Look, I've been doing research for this video by going on the Dream SMP Wikia page, and you know, I love how they have to put pronouns for, like, every single person, as well as put content warnings for abuse, torture, and manipulation - and they even have to put a disclaimer saying that the supposed fighting in the Dream SMP streams are fictional fights between friends that shouldn't be taken seriously. If that doesn't tell you about the sort of mob that Dream’s fanbase is, that will attack anyone for everything, then, you know… I’m pretty sure that this should. “Oh no, don't call Dream ‘insane’ or ‘crazy;’ this is an ableist term.” [laughter]

But yeah, you know, tonight, we're not going to be talking about the Dream SMP - that story is too deep, not relevant, and I literally don't care. Out of interest, though, I want to see jschlatt’s profile, because, you know, he's obviously the most loved person. “Abusive/toxic relationships warning; substance abuse warning” - but unfortunately, there's less than I thought. But anyway, I don't even know what I'm saying.

I think I've given the context: a Dream SMP member, sensitive leftist community, and the tweets that I read out at the start of the video pissing people off by being… more edgier than his fanbase would expect, although I like how the first two tweets are relatively recent e.g April 7 and March 31 - fair enough - then, you know, you pull up a tweet from two years ago, essentially, to also use against him, which, you know, is absolutely amazing. But, yeah, you know, those tweets aren't what we're gonna be talking about today, because I guess you have every right to be offended by them if you truly want to, even though, you know, JOKES EXIST, DREAM SMP FANS, I beg you listen. On the other hand, I don't think that your hate boner for Skeppy should get to the point that you're essentially falsely accusing him of paedophilia to get rid of him, which is what's going to be happening next.

On April 9, 2022, a burner account, whose handle is just @burner with eight different other digits, made this thread - and by the way, I just stole some random Twitter person's screenshot, because, you know, the guy deleted every tweet after, and, you know, here's what it says: “When I was a child, Skeppy abused me [serious tone indicator].'' I don't see why, if you're making a thread of this length, that people would assume that you were joking, but, then again, this is the Skeppy fanbase. “When I was seven years old, I left with my brother in Toronto, who was 12. My parents weren't around too much, and I wanted attention. My brother told me he could give me attention if I showed him my body. I was a child and didn't know it was wrong, so I did it.”

“Zak [Ahmed]” - which is Skeppy’s real name, as far as I’m aware - “was good friends with my brother and he'd come in unannounced. At times, he walked in on my brother assaulting me, and he joined in; he would touch me and kiss me without consent for three years. He did what he wanted to - when he wanted to. He attacked me, and threatened me to not tell anyone.I was small, so it was hard for him to fit in…” No, no, no,....

Okay, you know, I just took a break after that, because, you know, I’m not reading that crap and I've learned that Spotify is introducing a ‘Spotify Live’ feature, which is definitely not going to be a trainwreck. Hopefully, it's not used in the same way as Twitter Spaces - otherwise, society’s screwed.

[television static]

No, his imagery is way too vivid for my liking. Anyway, where were we? Over here: “He would pin me down with his knees, on my shoulders, so I couldn't…” Oh my god! “...and forced me to give him oral; even when I gagged, he wouldn't let up. I'd thrown up on him a few times and he didn't let me take a breath…” This literally sounds like something that LenTotally would do. “When he found out I was cutting myself, he said I did it for attention, and he would grab my arm and twist it, making all the cuts break and bleed, and when I was on the ground, he would take advantage of it and [non-consensually passionately hug] me. We moved to Florida when I was 11 years old, and it finally ended, but Zak started stalking me; he always called me constantly. I didn't have his cell phone, so I couldn't block him. It wasn't until I was 15 that he finally left me alone to focus on streaming. Unfortunately, I don't have any other evidence, because it was almost 11 years ago that this all started, and I did try my best to bury everything, but when I saw that video and I heard his scream” - this is the video that he's on about, this one supposedly mocking domestic abuse…

[Skeppy screams on a live stream]

“…I knew it was him. You can choose not to believe me, but this is my story. This is what Zak Ahmed put me through.” And in response, Skeppy tweeted back: “This is absolutely ridiculous. I have never laid a finger on anyone, ever. More than half of your story does not align with my upbringing and I seriously can’t believe the extent some people will go to bring others down. This is complete slander and defamation." And, you know, the guy then deleted his account a day later. I mean, you know, if the story was even half-real, you know, the guy would have - at least - have responded, instead of deleting his account out of fear of defamation, because, you know, these are, like, criminal things - not just, like, EDP445 stuff, which is already bad enough; I mean EDP literally went to meet up with people - but, you know, this is still worse than a factor of 10, if it were to be real - but, you know, it isn't. Well, you know, as far as we know, it could be true, but, you know, the behaviour of the guy doesn't really support the fact that, you know, this actually happened. But anyway, here are my thoughts on the situation. The situation honestly shouldn't have gotten this far in the first place. I mean, you know, the tweets criticising him were getting, like, so much traction - and even though they only had, like, a few thousand likes, Skeppy literally made two apologies, yet, you know, it seemingly wasn't enough for this person to the point that they had to make, like, a very elaborate fake story to try and get rid of Skeppy, which, you know… congrats for the effort, I guess… but… that's all I can say, I guess. Secondly, you know, even though you know it sort of made sense why the guy used a ‘burner’ account to make his fake story - because if he posted this on his main or her main (look, I don't know the gender of the guy who posted the thing, at least, you know, they’re not a “cualquier pronombre” [‘any pronoun’ in Spanish, but that ruins the joke if you know that], which is a genuine option on English-language TikTok for your gender) - people do genuinely use burner accounts to tell their stories in serious situations, due to the trauma that they feel, for whatever reason. I don't say that in a sarcastic tone, by the way; I just don't know what they feel trauma for - and by using a burner account with such ridiculous allegations, it does make it harder in the future for people with genuine stories to come out, so you know, there is some fair criticism there, but I don't know how to end this video, except, you know, uh, Skeppy is unbased for apologising for his absolutely amazing comedy.

- And I take it back - if I still can. I just want to say I'm genuinely so sorry, and you don't have to forgive me, and I'm sorry if you lost respect for me over me tweeting it again. I retitled the video but I realised that was probably even more stupid, so I’ve decided to just delete the video as a whole.

All my social media is at solo.to/scythed, and my Twitter is @scythedtwt, with my TikTok and Instagram being @scythedcreates, and I literally have no idea what everything else is. Well, you know, to be fair - they're probably not important either. 1.234 likes and I continue uploading, and, you know, good night - or morning; I literally don't even know when you're watching this.

- Hey, how's it going? I've actually got something for you; this is the bread that you asked me to get, and you can now go make me a sandwich! [laughter]

[outro song plays]
